Bawumia’s Mother Hajia Mariama Dies At 82

Hajia Mariama Bawumia (alias Maame), the mother of Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has passed away after a brief illness in Accra, the Office of the Vice-President has announced.

Hajia Bawumia was aged 82.

She had been unwell and hospitalised over the past few weeks.

“It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of my beloved mother Hajia Mariama Bawumia.

“Hajia Mariama passed away peacefully this morning in Accra. Burial is scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday September 14, 2021 in Walewale. May the Almighty Allah grant her Jannatul Firdaus,” Dr Bawumia said in a statement.

A native of Kpasenkpe in the West Mamprusi District, Hajia Mariama was one of the first Northern female students to gain admission to the prestigious Wesley Girls’ High School in Cape Coast in the Central Region.

During her 80th birthday in 2019, Dr Bawumia in a Facebook post described her as “the pillar of my life”.

“I always thank the Almighty God for giving me such a caring and supportive mother. She has always been there for us. The pillar,” he said in that post.
