BCMA Health Promotion Officer: Monkeypox Can Be Prevented Through Wearing Of Nose Mask, Use Of Sanitizers
A Health Promotion Officicer at the Birim Central Municipal Assembly (BMCA) in the Eastern Region has outlined ways of preventing a nationwide transmission of the Monkeypox disease. .
Siaw Ebenezer , said the wearing of nose mask and the use of hand sanitizer are effective against the disease.
He thus asked Ghanaians to revert to the adherence of these safety protocols.
Mr Siaw stated that, “Application of hand sanitizer is very crucial, even the use of mask and avoiding body contact as much as you can. What it means is that no country can escape it at the moment, we just have to find strategies to deal with it such that we can contain it and, possibly, break the chain of transmission,” he said in an interview with Obuoba Ofori Amanfo on Ahenkan FM’s “Maakye” morning show .
He also confirmed that Eastern Region has recorded it first case of the Monkeypox disease in the Okere constituency.
Already, Ghana has recorded five cases of the Monkeypox disease.
They were identified in the Eastern, Western, and Greater Accra regions of the country.
This was confirmed by the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) at a press briefing on Wednesday, June 8.
According to Dr. Patrick Kumah-Aboagye, one of the cases was recorded in a Ghanaian who travelled to the United States of America from Ghana.
He added that the cases were identified through the testing of 12 suspected cases, including one case that was reported from the Western Region.
“I am sure of late we have had a lot of discussions on social media on monkeypox, and I think the most popular one was the one from the Western Region. That was negative; we tested and it was negative.
“So far, since the outbreak, we’ve tested 12 suspected cases in Ghana since May 24, 2022. Currently, we have confirmed five cases in three regions – Eastern, Western and Greater Accra. No deaths have occurred among the cases,” he said.
