New Juaben MP Clears Air On “Accept E-levy Or Free SHS Will Be Cancelled” Comment

The Member of Parliament for the New Juaben South Constituency who doubles as the Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry, Hon. Michael Okyere Baafi  has cleared air on the statement he made saying that, “One thing that we didn’t explain is that if e-Levy is not accepted and we go to World Bank or IMF for a loan to support the economy, they will tell Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo to cancel the Free Senior High School education. But if Free SHS is canceled, all your children will no longer go to SHS for free”

Michael Okyere Baafi , therefore, urged Ghanaians to accept homegrown policy intervention -electronic transaction levy (e-levy) to avert such conditionality that may be attached to IMF support for Ghana.

He said this during engagement with market women and taxi drivers on the e-levy in Koforidua on Monday, February 14, 2022.

Meanwhile speaking to the host of Akyem Aboabo based Ahenkan FM’s flagship breakfast show “Maakye”, Obouba Ofori Amanfo,  on 24th August 2022, he [Michael Okyere Baafi ]  stated that, his statement was nothing but the truth.

According to him, the International Monitory Fund is there to guide the country on how to run the country by cutting down the country’s expenses.

He stated that, President Akufo Addo has well negotiated with the IMF in order not to cancel the free SHS for the sake of the Ghanaian school children.

Hon. Michael Okyere Baafi also said that, The African Continental Free Trade Area (AFCFTA) is a flagship project to promote intra-regional connectivity between the capital cities of Africa by creating a single unified air transport market in Africa.

He added that, out of the 55 countries in Africa, 54 has signed the agreement and 43 of them has rectified the agreement to ensure export and import of duties free and smooth trading across these countries.

He disclosed this to Obuorba Ofori Amanfo on Ahenkan FM Maakye morning show today 24th August 2022.
