The President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) is poised to break the eight-year jinx by winning power in the next presidential election.
Akufo-Addo has therefore charged executives and party supporters to ensure absolute victory for the NPP in 2024.
Speaking at the party’s headquarters in Accra as part of the 29th anniversary celebration of the NPP, Akufo-Addo said: “On 7 December 2024, the NPP’s presidential candidate is going to win the elections.
“Our objectives, our responsibility is to do whatever it is necessary to make sure that, that victory is forthcoming.”
He added: “We have to continue our way forward in Ghana, we cannot accept the backsliding that takes place every now and then. It hasn’t benefited our nation and it will not benefit our nation.”
We’ll overcome challenges
Akufo-Addo asked Ghanaians to retain the NPP in power to continue with its transformation agenda after 2024.
“The foundations that we are laying today and the prosperity of our nation are going to be shaken if again through our own fault we allow the path to progress to be diverted.”
He assured Ghanaians that the government has what it takes to turn the fortunes of the country around amidst the current challenges.
“Yes, the nation is facing challenges and difficulties but these challenges and difficulties can and will be overcomed because we have the policies, we have the programme and we have the value that will enable us to continue our journey of development in freedom.”
The NPP was founded on 28 July 1992, with the aim of bringing together like-minded citizens of the country to strive for freedom and justice by the appreciation and protection of human rights and the rule of law through the practice of true democracy.
It also seeks to build in Ghana a free and democratic system of government under which all citizens will be able to contribute to the welfare, peace, and prosperity of Ghana and keep its people free from dictatorship, and oppression.
The NPP is a centre-right and liberal conservative party in Ghana with the symbol of an African elephant. NPP’s colours are red, white, and blue.
