The principal of Oda Community Health Nurses’ Training School in the Birim Central Municipality of the Eastern region, Mr. Jones Abeka Baah has called on the government to permit the school to change its old name which doesn’t suit it current status.
Speaking at the school’s 60th-anniversary celebration held at the school campus in Akyem Oda, the principal explained that the school has added public nurses training into their previous courses started in 1962, hence the name should be changed to “College of Public Health” in order to reach world standard.
” The school was opened in 1962 aiming to train community nurses but as time goes on, we’ve revised and now we train public nurses but still the school’s name is still community nurse training school which doesn’t match the training we’re given to the students so we are appealing to the government to permit us Change the name to College of Public Health because we train public health nurses now”
He further appealed to the government, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO’s) and individuals to come to their aid to help them get a new school bus to transport their student nurses to villages for clinical and also help build additional hostels in the school to accommodate more students.
The principal, in addition, advised both student and staff nurses to have patience and show respect when attending to patients at the hospital because they received quality training in their various schools therefore they should exhibit what they’ve learned.
” Nursing is a call to do work but due to unemployment many people take the advantage to join, we aim to bring up responsible nurses.”
