Oppong Nkrumah Claps Back: I Never Said All 16 Flagship Programs Including Free SHS Will Be Reviewed
The Minister of Information and also Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi Constituency, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has refuted reports that he said the government is planning to review all the 16 flagship programs.
“I have never said anywhere that 16 flagship programs will be reviewed but the technical teams are going through the 2022 budget to make some possible adjustments”.
He said this on Ahenkan FM’s current affairs, social and political show “Maakye” on Wednesday’s edition, March 23, 2022.
He stated categorically that the revision of government flagship programmes came to light after a three-day crunch cabinet meeting at Peduase Lodge to proffer solutions to heal Ghana’s economic hardship.
Fallouts of the crunch meeting stirred claims and speculations that Free SHS policy among other 15 flagship programmes are up for review.
But the Information Minister, who doubles as Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayirebi Constituency, told host of the show Obuoba Ofori Amanfo in Ghanaian language (Twi) that some media personnel misquoted him.
“Some media personnel are misquoting me but I want to categorically state that I haven’t said that government will review the most touted programme Free SHS but there are ongoing adjustments to review some policies”.
He therefore asked politicians to stop politicizing initiatives that are geared towards national development.
According to him, when every little occurrence is attributed to one political party or the other which political activists and followers are so emotionally attached to their parties, they get easily upset over such issues which raises tension.
“We cannot afford to play politics with everything in this country. The incessant politicization of all issues does no credit to Ghanaian politics,”
“if anyone has evidence to defend that statement, they claim that I said the government is planning to review all the 16 flagship programs bring it out”

Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah in an interview on Accra-based Citi FM is quoted to have said no program will be left out of the review when the government held a crunch cabinet meeting at Peduase Lodge to proffer solutions to the economic hardships in the country.
He said “All the 16 flagship programs are up to be looked at. The President has directed that the flagship programs should be protected and fully implemented to ensure that the impact is achieved.
“However, he wants it done within the constraints of item number 2 which is the fiscal framework we are working with. If based on the caps that we are working with we will have to rescope a particular flagship program, we will do it and see how much we can achieve.”
