The Minister of Works and Housing Hon. Francis Asenso Boakye, has emphatically stated that the ministry is facing a lot of challenges to enforce the six (6) months rent advance.
According to him, the ministry of works and Housing together with private sector is pursuing policy measures to create enabling environment for the provision of additional housing stock in the rental market.
In his response to a parliamentary question filed by Hon. Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey , who wants to know the steps the ministry is taking to address the issue of house owners taking more than six months rent advanced.
The minister stated that, section 25 of Rent Act, 1963( act 220) prohibits landlords for taking more than six months rent advance.
He noted that any landlord who contravenes the law commits an offence and must be punished by the law of the country.
He elaborated that, rent control department has taken sensitization programmes to educate landlords and tenants on the provision of the law, particularly in regards to the rights and responsibilities of the landlords.
