A native from Atwima Nwabiagya Municipal Assembly in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Constituency, Ashanti Region, who was an Aspirant for Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Position in the area mentioned, Mr. John Kwame Duodu (SIR JOHN) has tasked all confirmed MMDCEs across the country especially in Ashanti region to work closely with all stakeholders to bring development to their respective areas.
According to Sir John as they has been Swore into office, they should do their best to eschew corruption and be transparent in the discharge of their duties. It is, therefore, our expectation that the MMDCEs stay focused and committed and defend the gains made in the implementation of the numerous social interventions, policies, and programmes,”
He also urged them to respect traditional authorities.
“Many party faithfuls showed interest and sought to be appointed by the president as MMDCEs. All over the country, we have party people like chairmen, secretaries, organizers, and other key party personalities who were interested in catching the president’s eye. However, it is quite obvious that the president can only appoint one person for this position.”
There were pockets of violent protests in parts of the country after the announcement of the names of the nominees.
There were also threats from some NPP members, maintaining that they will boycott party activities due to the failure of the president to nominate their preferred candidates.
But speaking to MyGhanaMedia.com, the former MCE Aspirant for Atwima Nwabiagya Municipal Assembly in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Sir John asked aggrieved individuals and members of the party to exercise restraint and support all the confirmed MMDCEs , to serve in the various local assemblies.
He also sent a word of advice to all Party faithful especially youth to help break the Eight ahead of the 2024 general elections.
“The task is not only into the 2024 election but beyond, we cannot be complacent.”
Comparing the work His Excellency the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia did in 2016 and the outcome of the votes indicate that there is a lot to be done hence they cannot be complacent going forward.
He as urged both regional and national executives of the party to visit various Constituencies to “re-energised” and “united” in a bid to help the party “ break the eight (8)-year power swing jinx.
In response to some Assemblies where nominee has been rejected especially in the Ashanti region, “Let me use this opportunity to appealing to our honourable members in the various assemblies especially where nominee has been rejected to put the interest of Ghana first and endorse the president’s appointees to avoid any unnecessary delay in the local government administration”, he added.
Four districts; Sekyere Kumawu, Juaben, Adansi Akrofoum, and the Ahafo Ano North are yet to confirm their MMDCE nominees.
